Cannabidiol Oil
Published 25 Jun 2018

Cannabis contains hundreds of cannabinoids, just one of which is cannabidiol, or CBD. The benefits of cannabidiol are many and legendary, and because of its various medical applications, this powerful molecule is now the subject of much scientific research. However, its therapeutic properties are just one factor. It has other attributes that are attracting people’s interest worldwide.

Benefits of Cannabidiol, or CBD

CBD oil and other CBD products do not make users “high.” The buzz typically associated with cannabis is due to the psychoactive effects of another one of its cannabinoids: Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. CBD itself is non-psychoactive and cannot make anybody stoned. For this reason, CBD oil is a safe and effective solution for children, pets, and people who would rather not space out.
CBD oil is, by far, the most popular of all CBD products. However, the exact ratio of CBD to THC and the exact concentrations vary between products and manufacturers. Despite this, CBD oil and other CBD infusions have significant medical value. Science shows cannabidiol providing a range of crucial health benefits, the likes of which are improving the lives of millions of people across the globe.

Without further ado, here are the top five health benefits of cannabidiol:

Analgesic

CBD is most famous for its analgesic properties. It is a powerful painkiller. It works by interacting with the body’s own endocannabinoid receptors in both the immune system and the brain to alleviate pain and reduce inflammation. Some studies, such as one published by the Journal of Experimental Medicine, show CBD lowering inflammation significantly in rats and mice.
However, rodents are not the only ones to experience reduced inflammation and less pain. The U.S. National Library of Medicine published a groundbreaking study that identified CBD as the agent responsible for effecting pain relief in human patients, and without any side effects whatsoever, especially not the life-threatening ones associated with all prescription painkillers.

Anti-Seizure

When the brain’s electrical activity fluctuates, seizures occur. Over the last few years, numerous high profile cases have made the world aware of the anti-seizure abilities of cannabidiol. However, science has only recently confirmed these anecdotal stories. The New England Journal of Medicine published the results of a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial.
The study analyzed the effects of CBD oil on young adults suffering from the Dravet syndrome, a very rare type of epilepsy. Victims typically endure seizures whenever they have a fever. Participants who consumed CBD experienced a major decline in the frequency of their seizures. The drop was a whopping median of 38.9 percent, which even scientists confess is astounding.

Anti-Anxiety

While most people use CBD to treat an array of physiological conditions, the evidence is rapidly mounting that proves its therapeutic value in treating a range of mental health issues, as well, only one of which is anxiety. The University of Sao Paulo conducted an exhaustive study that found cannabidiol lowering subjective anxiety significantly.
This led the study’s authors to conclude that, “These results suggest that cannabidiol, or CBD, reduces anxiety in social anxiety disorder and that this is related to its effects on activity in both limbic and paralimbic brain areas.” Not only will CBD make you feel less anxious altogether, it will also help you to make friends have a more carefree social life.

Anti-Tumor

A vast body of research is now indicating that CBD may prove extremely valuable in the treatment of various cancers, and in several powerful ways. Cannabidiol has a potent anti-tumor effect. Studies find it amplifying the death of tumor cells in both leukemia and colon cancer. Furthermore, deeper investigation shows CBD preventing the spread of cancer cells, most notably cervical cancer cells.
It is imperative to note that the overwhelming majority of cancer and cannabidiol studies are pre-clinical. This means that nobody has yet tested this on either animals or people. The results, while exceptionally promising, do not prove conclusively that CBD has the ability to cure cancer. However, the potential for it to do just that is incredibly exciting.

Anti-Diabetic

You rarely ever see anyone discussing the effect that cannabidiol has on diabetes, yet this is one of its most important medical benefits. Neuropharmacology published a study not too long ago where scientists set out to explore just how CBD would affect diabetes-prone, non-obese female mice. Of the untreated group, 100 percent developed diabetes.
However, of those mice that received cannabidiol, only 32 percent ended up with a diabetes diagnosis, leaving researchers to conclude a 68 percent success rate for CBD in preventing this terrible disease. Diabetes is a leading cause of death in the United States and the world, and obesity, its associated condition, afflicts almost two-thirds of people in Western countries.

Final Thoughts

It is clear that cannabidiol has massive health benefits for anyone who consumes it. Its powerful anti-everything properties can improve quality of life for millions of people suffering an array of debilitating health problems. While this list is far from exhaustive, it highlights just how effective CBD oil can be in treating most afflictions, including insomnia and other sleeping disorders.
